Position Overview:

The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other healthcare providers while ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. They provide patients with comprehensive information regarding their medications, including proper usage and potential effects. The Pharmacist may also collaborate with healthcare professionals by offering expert guidance on medication selection, dosage, interactions, and potential side effects to optimize patient care.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains the highest level of customer relations;
  • Directs activities of pharmacy assistant, technician, or interns;
  • Keeps abreast of new items, changing laws, regulations, and new pharmacy-related programs through participation in continuing education courses and reviewing pharmacy-related literature;
  • Communicates with pharmacist-in-charge on progress and policies of pharmacy department;
  • Carries out daily housekeeping, cleanliness and sanitation program as established within company guidelines;
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, consistent with company standards, in dress, personal appearance and grooming;
  • Consults regularly with the pharmacist-in-charge for the purpose of providing quality patient care and maximizing pharmacy performance and controlling expenses for the pharmacy department as well as to ensure consistency of policy between all pharmacy personnel;
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);
  • Provides oversight into safe and effective use of medications provided to consumers whether the product is a specialty product or not;
  • Maintains good company loyalty, set a good example, and project a healthy positive attitude;
  • Participates in treatment making decision and assist with appeals of coverage decisions with insurance companies;
  • Advocates for patient access to medication and educate patients, caregivers and prescribers as appropriate;
  • Maintains thorough and appropriate documentation in the patient/client record of all clinical activities and communication with patients, physicians and other healthcare professionals;
  • Provides consultation and answers inquiries from patients, families, physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding drugs and their use;
  • Supervises, coordinates and/or participates in the preparation of sterile admixtures, dispenses all pharmaceutical and related supplies and equipment in accordance with federal, state and local laws and standards of practice which govern the profession of pharmacy;
  • Processes and checks all medications, supplies and equipment prior to dispensing from the pharmacy;
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with patients;
  • Good organizational skills and an orientation to detail is required;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in using medical equipment and electronic health records (EHR) systems;
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Education and Experience:
  • Must be a registered and licensed Pharmacist;
  • Registered pharmacist or doctor of pharmacy from accredited pharmacy school;
  • At least 2 years experience as a licensed pharmacist in retail or specialty pharmacy;
  • Pharmacist must complete CE requirements in the state of employment

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work;
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required;
  • Ability to work in a confined area;
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Salary Range:
  • $100,000 - $140,000 a year
